600 private hospitals clinics and 22000 doctors will go on strike over Medical Bill changes
The Karnataka government witnessed emergency today when 22,000 doctors across 600 private hospitals went for an indefinite strike against some provisions of the Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill. Only emergency cases will be welcomed in the hospital.
The strike is being called in protest of the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007 which makes hospitals accountable for medical negligence. The private doctors say that the Karnataka private medical establishments amendment bill includes imprisonment of doctors who may have been erred.
The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007 was passed with the aim of regulating private sector medical establishments. The Act mandates registration of all private medical establishments, charts out the obligations like maintaining records, prescribes minimum standards of facilities and services provided in the private medical establishment and mandates displaying rates of various procedures.
